European Markets Drag as Stoxx 50 Hits Two-Month Low

European equity indices traded lower in mid-session, providing a cautious backdrop for GIFT NIFTY's reopening. The Euro Stoxx 50 fell 1.01% to 6,212 points on September 15, reaching levels not seen in nearly two months, according to market data. At the previous session close on September 14, the index had settled at 6,325.13 before declining 64.75 points or 1.02% by the close.

The DAX slipped 0.50% or 127.75 points to 25,440.81 in intraday trade, while the CAC 40 declined 0.76% or 61.99 points to 8,117.78. The FTSE 100 showed mixed signals across data sources, with one report indicating a decline of 40.24 points or 0.38% to 10,657.33, while another suggested the index was trading at 10,650.44, up 0.39% or 41.52 points from a previous close of 10,608.92.

The weakness across major eurozone indices weighed on broader risk sentiment during European trading hours. The Euro Stoxx 50's slide to multi-week lows and losses in the DAX and CAC 40 suggested investors remained cautious ahead of Session II trade in Asian derivatives markets.

Session II Outlook

GIFT NIFTY has extended its opening decline, trading 33.5 points below the Session II open of 23,276.5 and establishing an early range between 23,276.5 and 23,201.5 in the first 15 minutes. With European markets set to close around 21:30-22:00 IST during Session II, further moves could emerge as overnight positioning develops ahead of the next Indian cash market open.
