The Nifty 50 ended below the 23,500 mark on June 1, slipping modestly as domestic equities traded in a narrow band through the session. The Sensex closed 139.49 points or 0.19% lower at 74,636.25, while the Nifty surrendered earlier gains to settle marginally in negative territory.

Indian Market Drivers

The Nifty 50 opened at 23,654.50 and touched an intraday high of 23,733.70 before profit-booking dragged the index to a session low of 23,486.00. The broader Nifty 500 fell 0.29%, underperforming the benchmark, while the Nifty Bank shed 0.55%, weighed down by weakness in banking counters.

Sectoral action remained subdued with no clear leadership emerging through the day. Trading volumes on the NSE stood at 278.11 million shares as investors stayed cautious ahead of key macro triggers. Market breadth tilted negative as sellers dominated the closing hour, erasing modest morning gains.

The rupee, crude oil movements, and global cues influenced sentiment, though specific details on top gainers, losers, and institutional flows were not immediately available at the close. The index structure remains constructive on the weekly chart, with the Nifty holding above the 23,400 support zone despite today's dip.

The contract opened at 23,664 and rallied to a session high of 23,754 in early trade before sellers took control, dragging the index to an intraday low of 23,396.50 by late afternoon.

Outlook for Session II

GIFT NIFTY heads into the evening session at 23,457, with the contract settling below the 23,500 psychological level. The 358-point intraday range reflects two-way action, though the closing bias remains bearish as the index failed to recover from the mid-session slide.
