GIFT NIFTY reopened for Session II at 24,316 at 16:35 IST on Wednesday, slipping 17.5 points or 0.07% from the Session I close of 24,333.5. The marginal gap lower reflected a cautious tone as European bourses traded mixed to lower in their afternoon session.

The index has drifted further since the Session II open, trading at 24,282 as of 19:10 IST, down 15.5 points or 0.06% from Tuesday's close of 24,297.5. The day's cumulative range across both sessions stood at 24,196 to 24,359.5, with Session I having opened at 24,200.5 in the morning.

European Markets Set Subdued Tone

European indices were trading under mild pressure during their mid-session as GIFT NIFTY reopened, providing a tepid backdrop for the evening session. Germany's DAX shed 37.03 points or 0.14% to 26,091.33, while France's CAC 40 declined 7.45 points or 0.09% to 8,501.91. Britain's FTSE 100 bucked the trend with a marginal gain of 15.31 points or 0.14% to 10,743.35.

The Euro Stoxx 50, tracking blue-chip stocks across the eurozone, fell 0.37% to close at 6,444.46 as of its 18:00 GMT+2 close. The broader STOXX Europe 600 closed flat at 652 after wobbling through the session, while European banking stocks tumbled despite a pullback in long-term bond yields.

The mixed performance across European bourses reflected a lack of clear directional conviction, with sector rotation and rate-sensitive stocks weighing on sentiment. No major macroeconomic releases or central bank commentary emerged during European trading hours to shift the narrative.

Session II Outlook

GIFT NIFTY is trading 34 points below its Session II opening level, with the index likely to remain range-bound barring any overnight developments from global markets. Session II runs until 02:45 AM IST, with European markets having already closed and US futures yet to establish a clear trend for the overnight session.
