GIFT NIFTY reopened for Session II at 24,457 at 16:35 IST on Thursday, August 14, gapping up 60 points or 0.25% from the Session I close of 24,397. The modest opening gain came as European markets traded mixed in their mid-session, with losses in London and Frankfurt offsetting a marginal gain in the Euro Stoxx 50.

The Session II opening marked a reversal from the subdued Session I close, which ended near the day's lows. Despite the higher restart, GIFT NIFTY remained 19.5 points or 0.08% below the previous day's close of 24,431, reflecting cautious sentiment across both sessions.

European Markets Trade Mixed Ahead of Session II

European indices presented a mixed picture by the time GIFT NIFTY reopened. The FTSE 100 slipped 60.48 points or 0.56% to 10,772.67, extending its decline for a second consecutive session. Germany's DAX fell 0.28% to 26,299.74, while France's CAC 40 dropped 24.38 points or 0.28% to 8,650.56.

The Euro Stoxx 50, Europe's blue-chip benchmark, bucked the trend with a gain of 11.48 points or 0.18% to 6,545.47 as of the 17:50 CET update. The index has advanced 20.44% over the past 52 weeks, outperforming its national counterparts. The divergence between the broader Euro Stoxx 50 and individual national indices suggested selective strength in eurozone heavyweights, even as UK and German markets faced headwinds.

Sector rotation and rate concerns appeared to weigh on European equities, with traders continuing to assess inflation risks and central bank policy trajectories. The Stoxx Europe 600 edged down to 659 in afternoon trade, reflecting the cautious mood across the continent.

Session II Range Narrows After Opening Pop

As of 19:09 IST, the last traded price stood at 24,411.50, down from the Session II open but still holding above the day's low of 24,354.50 recorded during Session I.
