GIFT NIFTY reopened for Session II at 24,227.5, registering a negligible gap of just 2 points or 0.01% above the Session I close of 24,225.5. The opening candle at 16:35 IST showed minimal volatility, trading in a tight 11-point range between 24,219.5 and 24,230.5 before settling at 24,219.5.

The flat reopening extended GIFT NIFTY's modest gains for the day, with the index trading 27 points or 0.11% above the previous day's close of 24,179.0. The day's cumulative range across both sessions spanned 150 points, from a low of 24,179.0 to a high of 24,329.0 reached during Session I.

European Markets Retreat from Record Highs

European equities moved lower during mid-session trading, providing a subdued backdrop for GIFT NIFTY's Session II open. The Euro Stoxx 50 slipped around 0.3%, pulling back from recent record highs, according to market data. The Stoxx 600 index mirrored the move, declining approximately 0.3% as profit-taking emerged across European bourses.

The Euro Stoxx 50, which tracks 50 supersector leaders across the Eurozone, stood at 6,530.45 at the close of European trading on August 17, down 9.14 points or 0.14% from the previous session's close of 6,539.59. The index has delivered a one-year return of 18.48%, with a market capitalization of €4.011 trillion as of August 2023.

Among Euro Stoxx 50 constituents, BASF traded at €50.860, up 0.69%, while Bayer gained 0.92% to €48.34. Allianz added 0.31% to €439.96, and Adidas stood at €152.50. The index's composition spans major Eurozone economies, providing diversified exposure to European blue-chip stocks.

GIFT NIFTY traded at 24,206.0 as of 19:10 IST, down 21.5 points from the Session II open. The first three candles of Session II showed a gentle drift lower, with the 16:40 candle closing at 24,218.5 and the 16:45 candle settling at 24,212.0. Session II will continue until 02:45 AM IST on August 19, with European markets scheduled to close around 21:00-22:00 IST, potentially bringing further directional cues as European trading winds down.
