GIFT NIFTY opened with a negligible gap at 22,649 on October 06, up just 9.5 points or 0.04% from the previous close of 22,657, as traders navigated mixed signals from Asian markets ahead of the Indian cash market open.

The offshore Nifty futures index has traded in a tight 18.5-point range during the early session, touching a high of 22,666.5 and a low of 22,648. At 09:15 IST, the contract was changing hands at 22,666.5, consolidating near the upper end of the morning band.

Early price action showed GIFT NIFTY slipping briefly in the first five minutes after the overnight close before recovering to the 22,649 level. The index then chopped sideways through the pre-market hours, testing 22,659 twice between 00:50 and 00:55 before settling into a narrow holding pattern ahead of the cash market bell.

Asian equities presented a mixed picture at the Indian market open. Japan's Nikkei 225 surged 1,637.40 points or 2.40% to close at 69,946.86, recovering from the prior session's losses. The Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong advanced 68.05 points or 0.28% to 24,040.34, while the Shanghai SE Composite gained 0.31% to 3,842.19.

The tepid opening in GIFT NIFTY contrasts with the broader Asian strength, particularly the sharp rally in Tokyo. Indian benchmark Nifty 50 was trading at 22,555.75, up 0.60%, according to regional index data feeds, suggesting domestic equities opened with modest gains in line with the offshore indication.

The muted gap in GIFT NIFTY reflects investor caution despite the positive regional backdrop. The index's reluctance to build on the overnight close suggests traders are awaiting fresh domestic catalysts or are positioning conservatively given the narrow pre-market range.

GIFT NIFTY is currently trading at 22,666.5, holding near session highs but still within striking distance of the 22,657 overnight close. The early session range of 22,648 to 22,666.5 underscores the lack of conviction in either direction as markets digest the Asian rally and await further cues from domestic trading.
