Asian Markets Send Conflicting Signals

Regional equity markets presented a split picture. Japan's Nikkei 225 closed up 202.63 points at 63,957.53, gaining 0.32% on the session after opening at 63,995.28. The Japanese benchmark traded in a range between 62,864.43 and 64,240.50, sustaining momentum from recent sessions.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index moved in the opposite direction, closing down 156.48 points at 25,852.92, a decline of 0.60%. The index opened higher at 26,090.98 before surrendering early gains.

Nifty 50 Opens in Negative Territory

India's domestic Nifty 50 Index opened down 0.64% at 24,614.90, aligning with GIFT NIFTY's marginally negative bias. The cash market's weakness mirrored overnight pressure in Hong Kong, though the declines remained modest compared to broader regional swings.

GIFT NIFTY's early session candles revealed choppy trading through the Asian morning. The contract opened the overnight session at 24,664.00 and tested intraday lows near 24,656.00 in the first 30 minutes before climbing back toward 24,681.00 by 01:10 SGT. That early recovery faded as the contract settled into a narrow 24,716.50 to 24,798.00 range heading into the Indian market open.

Range-Bound Start Ahead of Domestic Session

With a modest 30-point decline from the previous close, GIFT NIFTY is signaling a tentative start to domestic trade. The offshore contract is trading 16 points below its opening level, reflecting limited conviction in either direction as traders await domestic cues.

The 82-point intraday range between the session high of 24,798.00 and low of 24,716.50 points to contained volatility in early Asian hours. At 24,724.00, GIFT NIFTY sits roughly midway through that range, leaving room for movement in either direction once cash market volumes pick up.
