GIFT NIFTY opened 15 points higher at 24,111.5 at the start of the Indian trading session but quickly reversed course to trade marginally below the previous close of 24,096.5. The contract is currently down 10.5 points or 0.04%, trading at 24,086.0 as of 09:15 IST.

The early session painted a picture of subdued volatility. After touching the intraday high of 24,111.5 at the open, the index failed to sustain the opening gains and drifted lower. The contract spent the first 75 minutes of trade oscillating in a tight 10-point band between 24,070 and 24,084 before gaining some momentum past the 01:00 hour mark, climbing to 24,084.0.

The lackluster opening follows a turbulent session in Asian markets overnight, with regional indices displaying sharply divergent moves that offered little directional clarity to traders.

Hang Seng25,311.21-18.53 (-0.07%)

Japanese equities bore the brunt of selling pressure, with the Nikkei 225 tumbling 1,889.70 points or 2.85% to close at 64,325.64. The sharp decline marked the second consecutive session of losses for Japanese stocks, which opened the day at 65,195.43 before accelerating to the downside.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index exhibited relative resilience, shedding just 18.53 points or 0.07% to finish at 25,311.21. The marginal decline stood in stark contrast to the heavy losses in Tokyo, underscoring the mixed sentiment across the region.

The mainland Chinese SSE Composite Index fell 0.97% to 3,941.39, while India's Nifty 50 opened 0.59% lower at 23,914.45, tracking the overnight weakness in Asian markets.

Early Session Range

GIFT NIFTY traded in a narrow 35.5-point range between the session high of 24,111.5 and low of 24,076.0 during the first 90 minutes of trade. The contract briefly tested support near the 24,070 level multiple times in the early going before recovering above 24,080.

The five-minute candle data shows the index consolidated below the opening level for the better part of the early session, with brief rallies towards 24,084 failing to generate sustained buying interest. The price action suggests traders are adopting a cautious stance ahead of further cues from global markets.

GIFT NIFTY is currently trading at 24,086.0, hovering just 10.5 points below the previous close and 25.5 points off the session high, as markets digest the sharp divergence in Asian equity performance and await fresh catalysts to establish a firmer direction.
