GIFT NIFTY Opens Flat Despite Regional Strength

GIFT NIFTY opened at 24,065 on Tuesday morning, down 11 points or 0.05% from the previous close of 24,060.5, in a subdued start that contrasted with broader Asian market strength. The marginal gap-down reflected cautious positioning ahead of the Indian cash market open at 09:15 IST.

The early session showed muted volatility. After opening at 24,065, the contract briefly touched an intraday high of 24,076 before drifting to a low of 24,039 within the first 75 minutes of trade. By 09:15 IST, GIFT NIFTY was trading at 24,049.5, holding just below the opening level in a narrow 37-point range.

Early Session Price Action

The 5-minute candle data revealed choppy trade in the overnight session. GIFT NIFTY opened pre-market at 24,035 and spent the first hour testing support near 24,008 before finding a base. The contract gradually climbed through the 24,040-24,055 zone, showing brief strength around 00:35 IST when it touched 24,054. However, it failed to sustain momentum, slipping back to 24,041 by 01:00 IST and hovering near 24,046-24,052 in the final minutes before the Indian cash market bell.

Asian Markets Post Gains

The flat performance of GIFT NIFTY stood in contrast to a broadly positive session across Asian bourses. Japan's Nikkei 225 closed up 500.77 points or 0.74% at 67,743.50, extending its rally from the previous close of 67,242.73. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index gained 127.01 points or 0.52%, finishing at 24,340.73. The Shanghai SE Composite Index also advanced, rising 1.36% to 3,967.13.

Hang Seng24,340.73+127.01 (+0.52%)

The upbeat regional sentiment failed to translate into a firm opening for GIFT NIFTY, suggesting investors may be awaiting domestic cues or fresh triggers from the cash market session. The Nikkei's 0.74% gain marked its strongest performance in recent sessions, with the index opening at 67,002.94 and climbing steadily through the day.

Session Outlook

GIFT NIFTY is trading at 24,049.5 as the Indian cash market begins its session, just 15.5 points below the opening level. The early range of 24,039-24,076 establishes immediate support and resistance zones for the day. The contract's inability to hold above 24,065 despite positive Asian cues points to a lack of conviction in the early hours, setting up a cautious tone for domestic equities as traders assess overnight global developments and local market dynamics.
