GIFT NIFTY opened at 23,984 on Friday morning, slipping 5 points below its previous close of 23,989, before recovering to trade at 24,008 as of 9:15 AM IST — a modest gain of 19 points or 0.08%. The opening session revealed a narrow trading range, with the index moving between a high of 24,028 and a low of 23,978.5 in the first 75 minutes.

The early session was marked by gradual downward pressure through the overnight hours. Five-minute candle data shows GIFT NIFTY opened the overnight session at 24,065.5 around midnight, then drifted lower through a series of small declines. The index slipped below 24,050 within the first half-hour and continued to shed points through 00:55, when it touched 24,029 — its lowest level in that stretch.

By 01:00, the index had stabilized and began a modest recovery, climbing back above 24,050 by 01:10. This pattern of selling pressure followed by stabilization carried into the Indian market open, where GIFT NIFTY held near the 24,000 level.

Asian Market Backdrop

Regional cues were mixed as GIFT NIFTY found its footing. Japan's Nikkei 225 closed at 71,053.49, up 1,151.24 points or 1.65%, according to delayed quotes from the Osaka exchange. The Nikkei's strong performance provided some support to regional sentiment, though the index has been volatile in recent sessions with a 52-week range spanning from 37,540.20 to 68,786.49.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index showed divergent performance across its components. The main Hang Seng Index stood at 24,128.48, up 1.15%, while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index gained 1.39% to 8,203.05. The technology-heavy Hang Seng TECH Index posted a sharper advance of 2.03% to 4,628.77, with the Hang Seng Biotech Index climbing to 11,751.68.

However, earlier search data indicated the Hang Seng had traded at 23,924.81 at one point, down 1.59% or 387.35 points, suggesting volatility across the Hong Kong session. South Korea's Kospi and Japan's Topix both hit record highs in late May, contributing to the positive tone in North Asian markets.
