Asian markets presented a divergent picture at the open. Japan's Nikkei 225 surged 882.70 points or 1.38% to close at 65,018.95, continuing its momentum from the previous session. The Shanghai Composite edged up 0.39% to 3,933.37, reflecting cautious optimism in mainland China.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index, however, moved in the opposite direction, falling 253.63 points or 1.01% to 24,834.12. The decline in the key regional benchmark weighed on broader sentiment, contributing to the subdued tone in GIFT NIFTY's early trade.

India's Nifty 50 opened at 23,446.80, showing modest gains in early trade despite the lackluster start for GIFT NIFTY. The positive opening in the cash market suggested domestic factors were providing support, even as offshore sentiment remained cautious.

GIFT NIFTY is currently trading at 23,291.0 as of 09:15 IST, holding above the session low but well off the opening level. The index has traced an early range of 49 points, with sellers maintaining control after the initial slide. The subdued price action reflects investor caution ahead of key economic data releases and continued divergence in Asian market performance.
