GIFT NIFTY opened at 23,822 on Tuesday morning, down a marginal 2 points or 0.01% from its previous close of 23,799, tracking mixed cues from Asian markets where Japan's Nikkei 225 surged while Hong Kong's Hang Seng retreated.

The index traded in a narrow 36-point band through the first 75 minutes, touching an early high of 23,822 at the open before drifting to an intraday low of 23,786. By 9:15 IST, as Indian cash markets commenced trading, GIFT NIFTY was quoted at 23,797, holding just below its opening level.

Early Session Price Action

The offshore contract opened with minimal gap movement and displayed subdued volatility in the pre-market session. After touching 23,792.50 within the first ten minutes, the index mounted a gradual recovery, climbing to 23,814.50 by the end of the first hour. The 5-minute candle data showed steady accumulation, with the contract adding 15 points from its opening print through the 1:10 mark.

The muted move reflected cautious positioning ahead of the Indian cash market open, with traders balancing strong gains from Japan against weakness in Hong Kong equities.

Asian Market Divergence

Regional bourses traded on divergent tracks overnight. Japan's Nikkei 225 closed at 66,399.84, surging 1,378.90 points or 2.12% from its previous close of 65,020.94. The rally represented a sharp reversal after two consecutive sessions of declines.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index moved in the opposite direction, falling 237.76 points or 0.93% to close at 25,413.12. The divergence between Northeast Asian and Chinese markets created a split narrative for regional sentiment.

Indian Market Cues

India's benchmark Nifty 50 opened at 23,779.15 according to available Asian indices data, marking a decline of 0.50% from its previous settlement. The domestic cash market's softer start aligned with GIFT NIFTY's subdued opening, suggesting continuity between the offshore and onshore contracts.
