GIFT NIFTY opened nearly flat at 23,999.5 on Monday morning, down just 6.5 points or 0.03% from its previous close of 23,995.0. The early session turned choppy as the index gave up its opening level within minutes, sliding to a session low of 23,960.0 before recovering slightly to trade at 23,988.5 as the Indian cash market opened at 09:15 IST.

The muted opening came despite a strong rally across Asian markets, with Japan's Nikkei 225 surging 1.26% to close at 65,020.94 on Friday, adding 806.46 points. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index also posted solid gains of 1.74%, climbing 437.56 points to 25,650.87. The disconnect between GIFT NIFTY's flat performance and the broader regional strength suggests investors may be taking a cautious stance ahead of the week's trading.

Early price action showed GIFT NIFTY struggling to hold its opening level. The 09:00 IST candle opened at 23,969.0 and bounced back to 23,990.5, but the subsequent five-minute period saw profit-taking drag the index down to 23,976.5. By 09:10 IST, the index was trading at 23,988.5, down 39.5 points from the opening print and establishing a narrow early range of just under 40 points.

The Indian cash market Nifty 50 Index opened at 23,897.70, up 0.10% according to regional market data, suggesting a modest positive start domestically even as the offshore futures contract traded with a slight negative bias. The divergence between the two benchmarks in the opening moments could reflect differences in sentiment between foreign and domestic participants.
