GIFT NIFTY opened marginally lower at 24,264.5 on Monday, slipping 39.5 points or 0.16% from Friday's close of 24,275.5, as Asian markets delivered mixed signals at the start of the week. The contract briefly touched a session high of 24,266.0 at the open before drifting lower through the early minutes.

The early session saw sustained pressure build below the opening level. By 09:00 IST, the contract had already retreated to 24,244.0, and continued to slip through the next 15 minutes. The 09:05 candle held a tight range between 24,247.5 and 24,240.5, closing at 24,242.5, while the 09:10 candle extended losses to test the session low of 24,232.0. Asian Markets Show Divergent Momentum

Regional cues offered little direction for GIFT NIFTY traders. Japan's Nikkei 225 closed Friday at 66,405.56, up 273.58 points or 0.41%, continuing its positive run above the 66,000 mark. The Hang Seng Index settled marginally higher at 25,584.79, adding just 19.05 points or 0.07%, reflecting hesitant sentiment in Hong Kong.

Australia's S&P/ASX 200 posted a firmer gain, rising 54.10 points to close at 9,092.30, while China's SSE Composite Index slipped 0.11% to 3,952.18. The mixed regional picture left GIFT NIFTY without a clear directional catalyst, resulting in the contract's muted opening gap and subsequent early session drift.

Indian Cash Market Opens Positive

The Indian cash market opened on a firmer note despite GIFT NIFTY's early weakness. The Nifty 50 Index opened at 24,175.65, up 84.80 points or 0.35% from its previous close, suggesting domestic buying interest may be outweighing offshore caution. The divergence between GIFT NIFTY's subdued start and the cash market's positive open highlights the impact of local flows at the opening bell.

GIFT NIFTY is currently trading at 24,236.0, down 39.5 points from Friday's close, having failed to hold the 24,260 level through the first 75 minutes of the session. The contract's narrow 34-point range between 24,266.0 and 24,232.0 reflects cautious positioning as traders assess the disconnect between offshore sentiment and domestic market strength.
