GIFT NIFTY reopened for Session II at 23,271 on September 16, gapping down 51 points or 0.22% from the Session I close of 23,322. The index extended losses in the opening minutes, sliding to 23,252.5 before steadying above 23,260 levels.

The modest Session II gap reflected cautious sentiment as European markets delivered mixed signals three hours into their trading day. Despite the negative open, GIFT NIFTY remained 28.5 points or 0.12% above the previous day's close of 23,267, holding on to modest gains built during Session I.

European Markets Trade Mixed Mid-Session

European indices showed no clear direction by the time GIFT NIFTY's Session II commenced at 16:35 IST. The DAX traded at 25,402.28, down 38.53 points or 0.15%, pulling back from earlier strength. The CAC 40 slipped 27.50 points or 0.34% to 8,090.28, underperforming its peers.

The FTSE 100 provided the only bright spot, adding 28.07 points or 0.26% to trade at 10,686.20. London's outperformance stood in contrast to continental European weakness, with the DAX and CAC 40 both in negative territory despite earlier attempts to push higher.

The broader Euro Stoxx 50 declined 0.40% to 6,236, while the STOXX Europe 600 fell 0.30% to 634. The STOXX 50 dropped 0.80% to levels not seen in nearly two months, suggesting underlying fragility in European equity markets despite the FTSE's resilience.

Session II Range and Current Levels

GIFT NIFTY traded at 23,295.50 as of 19:09 IST, recovering most of the Session II gap losses. The index carved out a narrow range between 23,252.50 and 23,274 in the opening half-hour before pushing back above the 23,270 mark. The day's cumulative high across both sessions stood at 23,340, while the low touched 23,189 during Session I trading.

Session II runs until 02:45 AM IST on September 17, with European markets scheduled to close around 21:30-22:00 IST. Further moves could emerge as continental European indices approach their closing auctions and overnight macro developments filter through.
