The Nifty 50 slipped below the 24,400 mark during intraday trade, with volatility intensifying in the afternoon session. The index hit an intraday low in the 24,290s before staging a modest recovery into the close. Market breadth remained weak as selling spread across sectors.

Sector Performance Mixed, Select Pockets Gain

Sectoral action was divergent, with a handful of segments posting gains while most ended in the red. Ceramic Products led the gainers with a 3.33% advance, followed by Media & Entertainment up 2.31% and Auto Retail gaining 1.78%. E-Commerce/App-based Aggregator stocks rose 1.77%, while Batteries added 1.50%.

On the losing side, pressure was visible across heavyweight segments. Hardware Technology & Equipment showed relative strength over a longer period, but intraday action reflected caution. Telecommunications Equipment remained volatile. Stock-specific moves included losses in select large-caps, while Amara Raja shares gained 3% following first-quarter results. MRF stock extended losses after its quarterly numbers, and RHI Magnesita fell nearly 5% during the session.

GIFT NIFTY Tracks Cash Market Weakness

GIFT NIFTY opened at 24,527.50 and hit a high of 24,575.00 in early trade before reversing sharply. The index dropped to a session low of 24,351.50, marking a 223.50-point intraday range. GIFT NIFTY closed at 24,464.50, down 101 points or 0.41% from the previous close of 24,565.50.
