Nifty 50 closed at 24,366.00, down 29.85 points or 0.12% from its previous close of 24,395.85, in a choppy session on Monday. The index opened at 24,361.90 and traded within a narrow range before settling marginally lower. The Sensex declined 210 points from its 3:15 PM levels to close lower on the day.

Market breadth tilted negative with 35 Nifty stocks closing in the red. Intraday volatility saw the index touch a high of 24,357.60 and a low of 24,226.95 during the session. Volume on the NSE stood at 2,677.06 lakh shares.

Sector rotation was mixed. Education stocks led gains with a 3.46% advance, followed by Sugar up 3.20% and Packaging higher by 1.67%. Rubber Products added 1.45% while Apparel and Clothes rose 0.98%. Engineering stocks gained 0.80%.

On the downside, BSE shares tumbled 4% after Jefferies downgraded the stock. The selloff in select heavyweight stocks dragged the broader market lower despite pockets of strength in defensive and commodity-linked sectors.

GIFT NIFTY tracked the weakness in Indian equities, closing at 24,360.00, down 61.5 points or 0.25% from its previous close of 24,421.50. The offshore derivative opened at 24,409.50 and ranged between an intraday high of 24,426.00 and a low of 24,266.00, a swing of 160 points reflecting volatile two-way trade.

The session saw sharp intraday swings with GIFT NIFTY sliding to 24,266.00 in the midday hours before recovering towards the close. The derivative contract mirrored the cash market's choppy undertone, with selling pressure concentrated in the pre-noon session followed by a partial recovery in the final hours.

GIFT NIFTY heads into Session II at 24,360.00, trading 61.5 points below Friday's close as traders await fresh triggers ahead of the Tuesday open.
