Sectoral Pressure Weighs

Broad-based weakness gripped the market, with metal, media, and realty stocks declining 2-3% as risk appetite waned. The selloff deepened after midday, with no sector providing meaningful support to arrest the slide. Banking stocks contributed to the drag, though the sector underperformed the broader indices by a narrower margin.

Market participants noted the absence of strong catalysts, leaving sentiment fragile as month-end position squaring added to volatility. Nifty has now erased 4.43% year-to-date, reflecting sustained pressure on valuations. The previous session's close at 24,175.65 marked a key reference point that the index failed to reclaim today.

GIFT NIFTY Session

GIFT NIFTY opened at 24,264.50 and traded in a 163-point range between 24,297 and 24,134, mirroring the cash market's choppy trajectory. The contract witnessed a sharp midday selloff from 11:30 onwards, sliding from 24,223 to a session low of 24,134 by 12:25 as Indian markets extended losses. A recovery attempt in the 14:00-14:30 window pushed prices back above 24,240, coinciding with the cash market's stabilization, before late-session weakness dragged the contract lower again.
