GIFT NIFTY Ends at 24,128 as Nifty 50 Slides 0.4%, Midcaps Drop 1.4%

The Nifty 50 ended at 23,995.70 on April 30, down 97 points or 0.4%, as a sharp mid-session selloff erased morning gains. The Sensex tumbled over 500 points before paring losses into the close. Broader markets underperformed, with the Nifty Midcap 100 index sliding 1.4%.

The Indian market opened firm, with the Nifty 50 hitting an intraday high of 24,181.80 in early trade before reversing sharply. The index fell to a session low of 23,957.05 as selling pressure intensified across sectors during the mid-session.

Sectoral Action and Stock Movers

Market data showed selective strength in IT and pharma counters. Infosys closed at ₹1,167.50, trading in a range of ₹1,159.60 to ₹1,189.80. Sun Pharma ended at ₹1,778.70, up from its intraday low of ₹1,761.40, after touching ₹1,807.80 earlier in the session.

Among active stocks, HDFC Bank finished at ₹776.40, down 0.33%, while Bajaj Finance gained 1.02% to close at ₹939.50. Reliance Industries added 0.41% to end at ₹1,431.20. Eternal led the most active list, falling 2.41% to ₹247.92.

Waaree Energies emerged as a top gainer at ₹3,107.20, while Roadstar Infra and Emmvee Photovoltaic also featured among outperformers. On the downside, heavyweights including Tata Power (₹443.50), Larsen & Toubro (₹4,024.70), TVS Motor (₹3,492.80), and Hindalco (₹1,049.00) closed flat or lower.

FII and DII Activity

Domestic institutional investors remained net buyers with inflows of ₹4,607.04 crore on April 24, purchasing ₹20,346.06 crore worth of equities and selling ₹15,739.02 crore. Foreign portfolio investors recorded net outflows of ₹8,477.60 crore, selling ₹17,932.55 crore against purchases of ₹9,454.95 crore on the same date.

GIFT NIFTY Session Snapshot

GIFT NIFTY opened Session I at 24,151.5 and climbed to an intraday high of 24,200.0 during morning trade before sharp selling pulled the contract down to a low of 23,821.5 around midday. The derivative index staged a gradual recovery through the afternoon, ending at 24,128.5, up 18.5 points or 0.08% from the previous close of 24,110.0.
