Volume remained subdued as the index built on its prior close of 23,214.95. The benchmark has declined 1.33% over the past week and is down 3.61% from a month ago, with year-to-date performance showing a 10.10% decline from highs.

Broader market indices showed divergence, with the Nifty Next 50 declining 1,216.55 points to 68,975.40. Among sectoral indices, Nifty Bank fell 432.50 points to 54,063.75, while Nifty Financial Services shed 251.80 points to close at 24,805. The Nifty Mid Select dropped to 13,994.75 as midcap stocks faced selling pressure.

Maruti Suzuki emerged among top gainers, quoted at ₹13,079, while Kotak Mahindra Bank traded at ₹379.70. SBI Life Insurance climbed to ₹1,755, and Adani Enterprises moved higher to ₹2,985.90. The large-cap space saw Reliance Industries flat at ₹1,269.50, Sun Pharma unchanged at ₹1,800.30, and Jindal Steel steady at ₹1,129.60.
