Sectoral Bloodbath Across the Board

Sectoral indices mirrored the benchmark decline, with banking stocks bearing the brunt of the selloff. The Nifty Bank index tumbled 4.67% in monthly terms, underperforming the broader market. The Nifty 500 index, representing the wider market, fell 2.28%, reflecting broad-based weakness. Nifty Financial Services dropped 1.93% to close at 23,976.55, while the BSE Bankex slid to 57,889.84.

Bajaj group stocks led the decline, with the Sensex fall attributed primarily to losses in this segment. Power Grid emerged as one of the few gainers, trading in a range of ₹292.00 to ₹297.90 and closing at ₹295.50. Reliance Industries traded between ₹1,334.10 and ₹1,365.00, settling at ₹1,348.10. Among defensive bets, Sun Pharma closed at ₹1,719.70, Cipla at ₹1,199.00, and Divi's Labs maintained stability, though broader pharma participation remained muted.

HDFC Life Insurance closed at ₹577.85, holding ground in an otherwise weak session. Top losers dominated the market breadth, with participation skewed heavily toward the sell side as investors booked profits after recent gains.
