The Indian stock market ended Monday's session on a subdued note, with the Nifty 50 closing at 24,021.65 after opening higher at 24,125.85. The index briefly touched an intraday high of 24,120.00 before slipping to a low of 23,973.60, reflecting choppy trade through the day. The Sensex ended 64 points higher at 77,339, though it had earlier shed 241 points during the session.

Market breadth remained mixed as the Nifty 50 struggled to hold above the psychological 24,000 mark. While specific sectoral performance data was limited, ICICI Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, IndiGo, and State Bank of India featured among the notable movers according to NSE change-point charts. Trading volumes on the NSE stood at 4,487.52 lakh shares.

The volatility witnessed during Monday's trade saw the benchmark oscillating in a 146-point range, with the Nifty opening near session highs before drifting lower through the afternoon. The 52-week range for the index stands at 22,182.55 to 26,373.20, placing Monday's close in the middle of the annual trading band.

GIFT NIFTY Tracks Domestic Weakness

GIFT NIFTY mirrored the domestic cash market's subdued tone, closing at 23,956.0, down 139.5 points or 0.58% from the previous close of 24,095.5. The offshore derivative contract opened at 24,062.0 and recorded an intraday high of 24,139.0 before sliding to a session low of 23,941.5, marking a trading range of 197.5 points.

The session was characterized by heightened volatility, particularly during the afternoon hours. After holding above 24,100 through the morning and briefly spiking to the day's high of 24,139.0 around midday, GIFT NIFTY came under sustained pressure from 2:00 PM IST onward. The contract shed nearly 150 points in the final two hours of trading, closely tracking the weakness in the Indian cash market as the Nifty 50 gave up early gains.
